A Midsummer Night's Dream: Bottom

Midsummer Night’s Dream in Barton-le-Clay

In mid July we put on an outdoor production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in David and Helen Balfe's garden over in Barton-le-Clay. It was a spiffing success and though we had 3 directors: Rory, Katie Rallison and Rosemary Bianchi, it all looked pretty seamless onstage. It was great working outside again and the setting was idyllic - it's such a shame that The Dell is in a poor shape so that we can't use it as we would like to. On the last night, as usual, Rory did his prize-giving thing (we all get prizes!) and a group of people who had set up tables and even a small chandelier sat and watched us as they finished their meal - now that's something you can't do in the QMT! Anyway - here some photos which capture something of the atmosphere.

After Midsummer Night's Dream, we were straight into Teechers which we rehearsed in a fortnight ready for the Edinburgh Fringe. Katie R and James K directed the whole thing and it was extremely physical - which is sort of our speciality. We really did have a wonderful time in Edi - it is such a beautiful city and at Festival time, there is so much going on and so many famous people around, its crazy. It rained every single day of course but it didn't matter one bit - even when we were out leafleting in our own particular style (we create giant tableaux which really draws the crowds and there they were, all huddled under their umbrellas). Thanks to all of you that came up North to see us (and lots did) and also to those who piled into the QMT with only two days notice.

Now it's onwards and upwards as Rory, Tim and Katie cast The Dracula Spectacula which goes on in November. I'm sure lots of BPs know it, although it's new to us lot. It's a big fun musical which will bring the new group together - yes, for lots of intrepid newcomers to Big Spirit this will be their baptism. Well we've all been there and they will soon feel as much at home as we all do. That's the great thing about BS, it's sort of like another family. Finally its time to say a sad goodbye to those going off to Drama schools: Callum Scott, Lewis Pacey, Gabriel Balfe and James Smith.
