Terry Johnson’s fabulous stage version of the story that shocked America in the 1960s. (Remember the film with Dustin Hoffman and Ann Bancroft? Of course you do!) The recent New York and London productions sold out so this is a real treat to kick off the new season. Benjamin has just finished college and is wondering what to do with the summer when he meets his parents’ friends, the Robinsons. Mrs Robinson in particular takes a shine to him and before too long they are meeting but only to have sex. Fascinated and grateful at first Benjamin becomes unhappy at the shallowness of it all and then he meets Mrs Robinson’s daughter.... A wonderfully witty and poignant play.

"The Dresser" by Ronald Harwood
After the success of The Vortex and Brideshead Revisited, bigredfunbus productions are delighted to announce that we will be producing The Dresser by Ronald Harwood in conjunction with both The Queen Mother Theatre and The Little Theatre, Dunstable.
We will be performing at the QMT from November 5th - 8th, and from November 21st - 29th at The Little Theatre in Dunstable. This will be a fabulous opportunity to work at both theatres and give cast and crew the chance to experience different stages and audiences.
The Dresser is a wonderfully affectionate and intelligent play about the life of a group of touring actors, during the Second World War under the "leadership" of a Donald Wolfit type star. It opened in London in 1980 to rave reviews, and was subsequently filmed (and gained four Oscar nominations) with Albert Finney as Sir, and Tom Courtenay as Norman.
The parts are as follows:
- Sir - The Actor Manager, a booming older man who has known the highs and lows of touring rep.
- Her Ladyship - An ageing Cordelia and Sir's common-law wife.
- Norman - His dresser.
- Madge - A briskly grim Stage Manager, and Sir's secret admirer.
- Irene - A young member of the company, desperate to become the "new Cordelia".
- Geoffrey Thornton - An aging member of the company.
- Mr Oxenbury - A young aspiring play write and member of the company, who walks with a limp.
- Players - A few men who play various Shakespearian characters - these are very small speaking parts, but have lots of "business".
Rehearsals will take place in both Hitchin and Dunstable, Sunday evenings and another night during the week, rising to two nights nearer the run.
We are planning to hold auditions in Hitchin and Dunstable. At time of going to press, these dates are still to be confirmed.
If you would like to find out more about the play, the parts and how bigredfunbus work, please contact either Nicki or Elliott, we will be delighted to hear from you.
