Sal's Army!

Sally with her Home Guard This happy commemorative photo of director Sally Hull and her loyal platoon of Dad’s Army characters was taken in the QMT foyer just before our final performance on Saturday night. It reflects the end of another triumphant week for the Bancroft Players and an exciting start to our 25 Anniversary celebrations. Six performances and every one a sell-out. More than 1,000 tickets sold. Judging from the comments of those that I spoke to following our £15-a-ticket Gala Night on Friday it was worth twice the money!

As the deadline for this newsletter was the day after our final performance I have not been able to go into as much detail about the Dad’s Army week as I would have liked. However, I am sure I speak on behalf of every one in the company when I say that the difficult technicalities of weaving a series of unlinked television episodes into a smooth evening of theatre entertainment could not have been handled better. The end product represents many months of thought and hard work on Sally’s part. I hope she realises how much her efforts are appreciated.

There was, of course, another ‘production’ during the Dad’s Army week. Organising our Friday ‘Gala Night,’ at which the Queen Mother’s nephew Sir Simon Bowes Lyon cut the Anniversary Cake, involved a great deal of behind-the scenes planning and for this we are particularly grateful to Wendy Whitmore who organised the event in conjunction with our Appeal Director Christopher Mann.
