Artistic Director's Slot
Wasn’t Daisy Pulls It Off wonderful? It couldn’t have be anything else of course as it had la crème de la crème of the female acting stock of the BPs in it. Yet even so, things can sometimes fall apart – especially if the cast don't get on or the gentle spoofing veers towards grand guignol. Still I think Charles Plester demonstrated his directorial strengths admirably as the piece had quality written all over it. For me it was pretty near flawless and I agreed with the woman who came out in front of me and said to her companion 'Well I don’t think we could have seen better in the West End' Abso-bloody-lutely!
So what else is there to whet your whistle? Well Mother Hubbard's Xmas Adventure is underway and I met the excited throng that is the cast down the theatre the other night at their first rehearsal. I love the Christmas show as it always has all ages involved and a real feel of Christmas spirit about the whole thing. Annette Wilkinson and her daughter, Hannah are in charge of proceedings with the admirable Roger Nobes as MD. The next show at the theatre though is Talking Heads, as the first Fringe of the season. If you liked Daisy.. then you are in for a treat as Zoë Watkins who played the eponymous heroine and Charles Plester star along with Vivienne Kerr. 'Top notch' as Graham would say (Chip in the Sugar, one of the 3 plays). We have opted for a very new staging which I am certain you will enjoy so here is an important date for your diary: Talking Heads, Thurs 18th – Sat 20th October at 7:45pm
Finally let me just mention Claire Dowie’s show again. As said last month, Claire is a performer of world standing so it is something of a coup to have her bring her new show to the QMT. It is for one night only on Saturday 3rd November at 7:45pm.
