Juniors Update

The recent showcase evening proved to be very successful, enjoyable and beneficial for all. It was not a polished performance as this was not the aim. The purpose of the evening was to invite parents and family members along to the theatre for an insight into what their children do during a typical weekly workshop. I believe that while the annual production provides the children with a very important, much needed and valuable opportunity to illustrate their stagecraft, it's during the weekly sessions that they really learn, develop and blossom as young actors. In addition, the workshops indicate progress, commitment and self-discipline.

The content of the evening included group improvisation pieces, choral and solo performance poetry, and physical movement group pieces, depicting the natural elements of Wind, Water, Fire and Snow. In addition, the children performed a few favourite songs from past and new productions, led by Jayne Mason.

Throughout, the children demonstrated great energy, commitment and a real team ethic. It was an exhibition of very much their own work and I was really impressed with the array of imaginative and thoughtful work on show, from the entire group. It was fitting to end the evening with a strong performance of the quite brilliant song 'Children of the World' from the recent production of 'Cindy'. A very relevant and thought-provoking number which concluded a very successful year for the talented Juniors.
