Phew That Was Close!

April sees the 25th anniversary of the Falklands invasion and I am reminded that in 1982 we had planned to do, in the May slot, that marvellous show "Oh What a Lovely War" written by Joan Littlewood. We were in St Annes at that time but not enough men turned up to audition in January so Mike Everitt who was the director for that slot suggested to the Production Committee that we should do "Cabaret" instead and that's what happened. Had we proceeded with the original plan one wonders what the effect would have been if we'd plastered the town with posters saying "Oh What a Lovely War", smack in the middle of the Falklands crisis! Sometimes the toast does land jam-side up.
