From the Chairman

Firstly can I welcome you all back from your summer breaks and holidays – I hope you had a good rest and are all ready for the busy, exciting and production-filled season that lies ahead of us!

By the time you read this we will have already started our post-summer season with the production of ART in the main auditorium. It would be slightly unfair for me to say what a fantastic production it was (even though it was!) as I was in it – so hopefully there will be other news on ART later in the newsletter! I would like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the play – it’s been over a year since I’ve worked with a small production team and it really was a very close-knit experience, so thank you to Nicki, James, Charles, Greta, Alistair, Marilyn and Dan. (Plus Rosemary and Will for the artwork!)

You may have noticed if you have visited the theatre recently that the planned changes to the bar and foyer have not yet happened; this is due to some formalities that were not rectified in time for the work to be completed prior to the season starting. However, Chris Lane and his team are working in the background to get all the non-cosmetic work done prior to the Christmas break, when all the structural and cosmetic work will be completed.

I would like to pass on my congratulations to Big Spirit and to Charlie Woodcock and his team for a fantastic production of JUNK. I was lucky enough to be in Edinburgh for the festival the same week as this was being performed and I can genuinely say that I was VERY proud to be a Bancroft Player. From speaking to Charlie and Rory since then I understand that they continued to have good houses and positive feedback, so Well Done!

Well before I sign off for this month there is just time for me to remind you to book your tickets for the up and coming productions. WEST in the studio, BRENDA BLY – TEEN DETECTIVE a musical from Big Spirit and JAMES & THE GIANT PEACH, our fantastic Christmas production (which I understand is already selling well!).

I look forward to seeing you at the theatre soon.
