Golden Opportunity For New Directors

I have been given the go-ahead by the EC to establish a new sort of directors’ training programme over the coming year at the QMT. We are looking for 4 would-be directors who will commit to 4 full days of training with some professional directors. During this time they will be given an excellent opportunity to learn their craft from the very best. There will be homework and the directors will have to prove that they have not only attended but done the work that goes with the course.

For their showcase pieces in June, each director will take on a brand new one act play. These plays will be chosen by a panel as part of a new National One Act Play competition to be run by the QMT which has just been announced in The Stage and Writers Today. The new directors will meet with and do some work with the winning playwrights before going on to cast and direct the productions. This is a unique venture and I hope there will be lots of applicants to take part in the new directors’ training programme. You know it is quite extraordinary to think that most directors never have a single days training although new courses are just beginning to spring up. So get applying!
