PRIVATE LIVES

A lively and stylish comedy by Noel Coward

Directed by Diana Linnett

Audition Dates:
Monday 2nd October 2006 at 8.00 p.m.
Thursday 5th October 2006 at 8.00 p.m.
Performance Dates:
February 19th – 24th 2007

Rehearsals will commence during the first week of November with a short break over Christmas.

Set in the 1930s, this play has 3 acts. The first on a hotel terrace in France and the second and third in an apartment in Paris.

Cast as follows:

Sibyl Chase.
Late 20s, early thirties, pretty, well dressed and probably blonde and sweet.
Elyot Chase.
Thirties. Witty, attractive. Pleasant looking, well dressed and debonair.
Victor Prynne.
Late 30s. well turned out, polite and nice but un-exciting.
Amanda Prynne.
Thirties, very attractive, sexy with loads of personality and charm.
Louis: French maid (Act 3 only).
Slightly frumpy and practical – not a sexy French maid!

This play is really about the relationship between Elyot and Amanda who were married to each other before and who meet each other again on honeymoon with their new partners! They quickly fall back into each others’ arms and resume the passionate love affair that was never really over but which had been extremely stormy. Can they manage their relationship any better now that they are a little older? The chemistry between the actors who play Elyot and Amanda is vital to the success of this show.

Noel Coward’s original dialogue still stands up in spite of some changes in the use of language. This elegant and witty play has stood the test of time telling the story of a relationship that is as real and relevant today as it was when it was written.

Steven Berkoff’s great play “West” is the next big Fringe production. Set, as most of Berkoff’s work is, in the London East End of the 1960s, it tells the story of Mike who lives with his dear old Mum and Dad and likes nothing better than to prove his manhood by fighting with the other gangs on a Saturday night. His girlfriend Sylv wants him to settle down but Mike has one more job to see to – sorting out the Beast of Hoxton.

We need a cast that loves to be physical in their acting. Books available in the box office or contact Rory at bigspirittheatre@hotmail.com for more details.
