Production News

A note of appreciation. The first thing I would like to say is to congratulate Mike Everitt on the hugely successful production of “The Boyfriend”. A great way to end countless years of productions for the BPs – an incredible record! Well done Mike and, on behalf of everyone, thank you for all you have done.

As this is the first newsletter after the AGM and the first in my new “role” as Production Manager, I thought I would start as I mean to carry on by mentioning not only the current season, but also to get you budding and experienced directors to start thinking about the 2007/8 season. I can hear the groans from here, but seriously if there is a play you are keen to direct but need help or advice, just call me on 01462 678768.

As far as this season is concerned, audition notes will be posted inside the theatre and also in each copy of the newsletter – so keep an eye out, especially at this time of year when people are away. Information about auditions for “James and the Giant Peach” appears in this newsletter.

On a less formal note… There I was, at the National Theatre on a hot June evening watching “Market Boy” – nothing special in that, I hear you say, but you are wrong! I sat there feeling so proud that our Society had two ex-members in that cast and another in “The Seagull”. Claire Rushbrook played the Mother and Craig Vye played New Boy and Ensemble, but also understudies the lead. Ben Whishaw appears in “The Seagull”. I can’t think of another society in the area who can boast of that! If you haven’t already seen either production, try to catch them. Then, at the end, just to add icing on the cake, I saw Matthew Pitman, an ex-lighting lad who came under the watchful eye of Chris Lane a few years ago, and who now works at the National doing lighting design.

So well done the BPs and well done Rory for giving them all their start in the Youth Theatre – who knows what other budding talent that first bursts forth on our stage, but if you don’t support their productions you will never know!
