The QMT - An Historic Venue

People rave about The Globe and its period productions, but every few years the QMT is transported back in time at Easter with a Baroque Opera staged within one week from scratch.

The production this year was Anacreon by Rameau from the mid 1700's and Benslow Music Trust organise the rare staging of these Operas in this country. The staging, costumes and movements are all very specific and symbolic in these productions, and the level achieved by the performers and musicians is exceptional, especially as the music is scored to trip performers up!

The group considers us the ideal venue in this country for doing these operas. It is the right size to give to feel of the theatres of the time which were usually in the `great houses' of the time where the wealthy patrons lived. After a few years of learning we can now offer lighting to compliment the show to try and give a feel of the original experience. We look forward to their return in the future.
