"dumbing down"

Saturday 24th June at 7.45 p.m.

David Harrold's fast paced comedy, dumbing down, spotlights Education in the Blair years. A young teacher, at the start of his career, finds work at a school in the grip of the National Curriculum, assailed by tests and targets, and battered by league tables and inspections… This hilarious topical satire includes rapping, Shakespeare, gender-swapping and an opportunity for the audience to throw rubbish at the actors.

David Harrold now combines free-lance teaching with professional acting and writing. Other Cadco shows he has written include Checkpoint, about conflict zones; Memoirs of a Professional Cad, about the film business, and First Night and Still No Trousers describing his own hectic, hilarious and harrowing experiences in professional theatre.

David says, The play is my celebration of the individual student and the individual teacher; it is an attack on the target driven culture that is crushing them.

Fast paced, rib-tickling satire…amusing, convincing and very hard hitting. - Hertfordshire Mercury

Witty, professional, pure entertainment and a stimulus for discussion and debate. - Jon Berry, www.rethinkinged.org.uk

A subtle combination of biting humour and astute observation. An outstanding piece of theatre. - David Forbes, ATL
