After "Hamlet" - Chalking Up a First
When I realised way back last year that Nicki Pope was directing Hamlet at the QMT and then I learnt that Elliott Lawrence would be in the lead role, I knew it was a must see production - not only for myself but for husband, Noel. Noel is something of a fan of Elliotts but I was wondering how he would take to the Shakespeare part of Elliott’s latest performance. Because I am ashamed to confess on Noel’s behalf, that he had never been to see any Shakespeare prior to March. However he was still happy to come along with me.
It is all credit to Nicki, Elliott and the rest of the cast, that he thought it was a great evening and he enjoyed every minute of it - even right up to the last moment at 10.40 p.m.! What a superlative production. Lovely set, brilliant lighting and marvellous acting. I have run out of adjectives. Congratulations to all concerned - this is the sort of production for which the Bancroft Players should be justly proud. Whilst I wouldn’t say Noel is now hooked on Shakespeare, I am sure he will view the Bard in a slightly different light, should I ever suggest that he comes along to another production!
